IVF Public or Private
Private or public treatment?

A common question is whether to go for treatment at a private clinic, or at a public hospital. Based on our own anecdotal evidence, here are some of the differences between the two:
Factor | Private | Public |
---|---|---|
Costs | Higher | Lower, and there may be government grants available for citizens /permanent residents. |
Waiting time for starting treatments | Faster. Generally, once your tests are done, you can commence IVF on the next cycle. | Longer as there is usually a queue to get an appointment. It can take around 6 weeks to proceed with a fresh cycle, and a frozen cycle will take a further number of weeks. Some public hospitals also require you to have failed IUI two times before you are allowed to embark on IVF |
Medication | Generally more expensive as the prices are not subsidised. | Cheaper. Even as a private patient in a public hospital, the medications are still priced lower than in private clinics. |
